Ingredients You’ll Need to Make Pudding Limoncello Shots

PUDDING: To make these shots you will need instant pudding mix. Make sure the pudding is instant and not cook & serve so that it sets quickly.

MILK: To make the pudding you will need milk. You can use what you have on hand but typically 2% or whole milk works best when making pudding.

LIMONCELLO: Limoncello is a lemon-flavored Italian liqueur and it brings more lemony sweetness to these pudding shots and is easily found in most liquor stores.

WHIPPED TOPPING: You will need whipped topping, like Cool Whip or a store brand, for folding into the pudding and for topping the shots. You can also make homemade whipped cream if you’d like. You can also choose to use spray whipped cream to top the shots more easily.

Tips & Tricks

  • You can use a lemon or other citrus vodka in place of Limoncello but this will increase the ABV, or alcohol by volume, and make a stronger pudding shot.
  • To increase the punch of alcohol when using Limoncello you can use more in the recipe and less milk, just be sure to use the same ratio of liquid.
  • Other pudding flavors can be used too, like vanilla, cheesecake, or coconut. Just make sure to use instant pudding.
  • You can use freshly made whipped cream in place of the whipped topping. To make homemade whipped cream you will need 2 cups of heavy whipping cream and ¼ cup of powdered sugar. Add them to a large mixing bowl and beat with a hand mixer until stiff peaks form. Use half of the whipped cream in the pudding mixture and the other half for topping the shots.

Lemon Pudding Shots Recipe FAQ

What type of alcohol is Limoncello?

Limoncello is a liqueur that hails from Italy and is made with lemon, sugar, and typically vodka. Other neutral spirits can be used as well, but vodka is used most often. Steeping lemon peels in a spirit releases the wonderful limonene oil, the light yellow color, and other constituents that give Limoncello its bright color and lemon flavor. Most brands of Limoncello range between 20-30% ABV, and some homemade limoncello versions can contain more.

How long do pudding shots last?

Keep your pudding shots fresh and tasty by keeping them covered and in the fridge for up to 5 days. Pudding shots can also be frozen, and to do this you should leave the toppings off of the shots, put a lid or other plastic wrap over the container, and freeze for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to enjoy the pudding shots, let them thaw in the freezer, and then garnish with your favorite toppings.

I’ve made this recipe twice now and it was a HUGE hit both times! This last time I added some crushed graham crackers on top and it was even better!
