Ingredients You’ll Need to Make Eggnog Punch with Alcohol

EGGNOG: To make this punch you will need your favorite eggnog. If you like, you can use store-bought or homemade eggnog, or even plant-based eggnog made with soy or almond milk.

LIQUOR: This punch calls for Fireball cinnamon whisky, but really you can use most brown liquors – like whiskey, brandy, rum, dark rum, or amaretto.

SPICES: You’ll need ground cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice (which is just a blend of spices).

ICE CREAM: Add a little party to the punch with your favorite vanilla ice cream. This is optional, but OMG so good!

GARNISH: Have a little freshly ground nutmeg on hand to garnish drinks, as well as your favorite toppings like marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, and whipped cream.

STEP 2 Pour in the Fireball and stir everything together really well. A whisk or immersion blender are great options to make sure there are no spice clumps.

STEP 3 Fill individual glasses with Fireball eggnog and add a small scoop of ice cream. Sprinkle nutmeg over the top and add any other garnishes you like.

Tips & Tricks

  • If you prefer to use a spirit other than Fireball, go with another of your favorite alcohols that pairs well with eggnog, such as Bourbon, whiskey, brandy, rum, or spiced rum.
  • You can make this punch ahead of time, without the ice cream, and keep it in a pitcher in the fridge. Before serving make sure to give it a good stir to mix the settled spices again.
  • Double or triple the amounts to fill a large punch bowl or to make as much as you need.
  • Whether you make this eggnog punch recipe with store-bought, homemade, or plant-based eggnog, keep the ratio the same.

Eggnog Punch Recipe FAQ

What’s the best alcohol to mix with eggnog?

The best alcohol to mix with eggnog are favorites like brandy, Bourbon, whiskey, or rum. To put a finer point on it, the alcohol you choose can make your eggnog sweeter, as in the case of brandy, or almost unnoticeable when you add rum or a little extra flavorful if you add spiced rum. Whiskey will give your eggnog a little punch of alcohol without overpowering the eggnog flavor, while Bourbon will give you a bigger punch and is great for those who like their eggnog less sweet.

Why is eggnog called milk punch?

Milk punch is a popular winter cocktail that is made with cream, sugar, vanilla, and alcohol with a sprinkling of spice. While eggnog may fall into the Milk Punch family, it is actually different because eggnog contains eggs, which Milk Punch does not. Technically, eggnog wouldn’t be considered a kind of milk punch at all if you don’t add alcohol! Similar to eggnog is a gorgeous Bourbon Flip, made with cream, sugar, alcohol, and egg whites, which gives the drink a creamy but airy feel. Bourbon Milk Punch is a classic milk punch recipe that is also perfect for the holidays or to enjoy during winter brunches!

Instructions

  • Pour the eggnog into a large pitcher or small punch bowl.
  • Add the Fireball, pumpkin pie spice, and ground cinnamon. Stir to combine. (I recommend a whisk or immersion blender to fully incorporate the spices.)
  • Pour the punch into serving glasses and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Top with some freshly ground nutmeg and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Nutritional information includes 4.25 ounces of eggnog with 2 tablespoons of vanilla ice cream per drink.
  • The addition of ice cream turns this eggnog into a sort of holiday “sherbet” punch. The ice cream can be added to the punch bowl instead of glasses if you prefer.
  • If making this punch ahead of time, be sure to stir it well before serving as the spices can settle to the bottom of the pitcher/bowl.
  • Store leftovers, covered with plastic wrap, in the fridge for up to 1 week.
