I’ve had this fascination with the idea of unicorn poop ever since I saw the cookies years ago! They’re everywhere and so stinkin’ cute! (ha!!) My friend Karyn even made unicorn poop candy bark!
But after seeing the squatty potty video, I knew I had to make unicorn poop ice cream someday. And today is that day!
This is is your standard vanilla ice cream made fabulous with a little food coloring, lots of glitter, and star sprinkles all over the place!
My kids freaked out for this stuff. I mean seriously, can’t you just imagine the princess cake this ice cream goes with. I like to live vicariously through my friends that have girls.
You can even get the kids involved in making this ice cream by having them mix up the colors and add the sprinkles & glitter.
They’ll L-O-V-E it!

Unicorn Ice Cream
Ingredients
- 2 cups whipping cream
- 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Gel Food Coloring & Sprinkles
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the whipping cream until medium peaks form.
- Pour the can of sweetened condensed milk & vanilla into the whipped cream, and fold the whipped cream and condensed milk together until completely combined.
- Separate the ice cream base into 5 bowls. Add 2-4 drops of food coloring to each bowl (1 color per bowl). Use a spoon to mix in the food coloring until it is evenly distributed in the ice cream base. You can add more food coloring as needed to reach your desired color.
- Using a standard loaf pan, layer the ice cream. Place 1/2 of each color in the pan in big dollops. (I layered the blue, green, and purple first, and then the yellow and pink on top of that.) Then repeat the color layering.
- Run a butter knife through the ice cream a few times in each direction to swirl the colors together. You don't want to completely mix the colors, just swirl them a bit.
- Top the ice cream with star sprinkles and sprinkle with disco dust. Because everyone knows unicorns are glittery.
- Cover the loaf pan with plastic wrap and freeze for 8 hours to overnight, or until the ice cream has set up.

This reminds me of the Hershey ice cream “Crazy Vanilla” that I used to get as a kid. Because I only liked vanilla flavors then and I thought the different colors tasted *different* and therefore I wasn’t totally boring. I think if it had been called unicorn ice cream when I was a kid I would have been even more in love. Beautiful!
Julie says
Thank you so much Ace! Love that story, and vanilla is totally not boring. It’s one of my favorite flavors ever!
Beth says
Soooo where do I mix in the whipping cream – sweetened condensed milk mixture?
Julie says
Steps 1 and 2 are making the whipped cream and folding in the sweetened condensed milk to form the ice cream base. From there, you just separate the whipped cream mixture into bowls, color, layer, sprinkle, and freeze. 🙂

This is so fun! Perfect for kids in the Summer!
Leslie says
Oh, how fun! My girls would go nuts for this. The sprinkles and disco dust just make all the difference!
Mia says
Wondering if I could use liquid food coloring instead of gel?
Julie says
Hi Mia! You can use liquid food color instead of gels, but the color may not come out as vibrant and/or you may have to use more of the liquid food color to achieve the hue you want. It’ll totally work though.

It’s SOOO PRETTY!!! =D But where can I get the star sprinkles from??? =O
Julie says
I found mine at Target years back, but any baking supply store should have them…or you can find them on Amazon. http://amzn.to/2q2zrzb or http://amzn.to/2orWMu8

Looks so fun! I made it but totally forgot vanilla because it wasn’t listed in the ingredients or instructions. We’ll see how it tastes tomorrow. I’m assuming flavorless. Still pretty anyway.
Julie says
It’ll be a sweet cream flavor if you don’t add vanilla. The whipped cream and sweetened condensed milk together still tastes good. That’s how I made it the first time. 🙂
Stephi Anderson says
I made this with coconut cream and sweetened condensed coconut milk to accommodate a dairy allergy and it totally worked! Had to be super-careful not to over swirl at the end because it wasn’t quite as stiff, but it is beautiful and yummy. 🙂 Thanks for the fantastic idea! My birthday girl and her guests will love it!
Julie says
Coconut sounds fab Stephi! Good call on the swirl control. 🙂 So glad you loved this ice cream!!
Amanda says
Can you use heavy whipping cream?
Julie says
Yes ma’am!!
RaKole says
Hello,
Can you use vanilla ice cream and mix in the food coloring and sprinkles?
Julie says
Yep! 🙂
Keema says
Can you use neon colors
Julie says
Hi Keema! You could, but the ice will have a different look, obvs. 🙂
Meredith says
This came out great! & tasted really good! All the kids & guests at my 6 year olds birthday were really impressed! I might experiment next time with “Galaxy ce cream” since I have all the ingredients.
Emily says
About how many people will this serve? I’m looking to make it for my daughter’s unicorn themed birthday party in a month! This is amazing!!
Julie says
HI Emily. This recipe makes about 5 cups. I would make a double batch for sure if it’s for a party.
Brit says
Hi. I was wondering what is the serving size for the nutrition facts? My step daughter is diabetic & I know she would love to try this ! Thank you.
Julie Espy says
Hi Brit! The serving size is 1 cup.
Gillian says
How long will this keep? Can i make two days ahead for my daughter’s birthday party?
Julie Espy says
Wrap the pan tightly in plastic wrap and you should be good for up to a week. 🙂
Jamie says
If I made a huge batch and put it in an old plastic ice cream bucket, would that work?
Julie Espy says
Yeah, that should work fine. You’ll want to make sure to layer the colors as you add them to the bucket. 🙂
