Reanimation Reagent Rum Jello Shots
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin equivalent to 2 envelopes
- ½ cup cold water
- 12 ounces pineapple juice
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ½ cup light rum
- ½ cup mango flavor rum
- 1 – 2 drops electric green gel food color
- 12 jello shot syringes
Instructions
- Place the gelatin in a medium mixing bowl. Pour in the cold water and stir to combine; set aside.
- Heat the pineapple juice in a small saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a simmer.
- Once the gelatin has absorbed into the cold water, pour in the hot juice and whisk to combine until the gelatin dissolves. Add the sugar and whisk to dissolve.
- Pour in the rum and 1 drop of green food color, stir to combine. If you’re not happy with the color of the shots, you can add one more drop of food color at a time until your desired color is reached.
- Removed the plunger from each syringe and place them in a cup or something that will keep them vertical, but be sure to leave the cap over the tip of the syringe.
- Pour just over 2 ounces of the liquid into each of the syringes (so they’re almost full). Leave the plunger off the shots until they set. Put the cups in the fridge and chill until the jello starts to set, about 1-2 hours.
- Remove the shots from the fridge and take the caps of the tips. Insert the plunger and press down until the air pocket releases. Turn the syringe up so that the air moves towards the tip, and press until the plunger is touching the jello and the excess air is gone. Some of the jello is going to come out, deal with it. Collateral damage. Replace the caps and refrigerate for another hour. Keep cold until ready to serve!

Maybe I’m dense but why wouldn’t you just draw up the liquid into the syringe as you would with a dose of medicine and then let it set? I think I’m going to make these for the Halloween party this year! Also what size syringe?
Julie says
You could totally draw the liquid up into the syringes. The jello shot syringes I used are really tall with the stoppers in and don’t fit in my fridge standing up.
These are the syringes I have. They hold 2.5 ounces. > http://amzn.to/2cjD2UW
You could use whatever size you have available, you might get more shots though…pun intended. 😉
Jamie says
Can you just put these in regular 2 oz cups? Or would they be to liquidy? Thanks
Awesome idea!
Julie says
You can totally put them in 2 ounce cups. They’ll take about 2 hours to set all the way through. 🙂
Jamie says
Thank you so much! Also can I use just the Bacardi Mango Rum, or do these have to have the Bacardi Silver Rum too? Thanks again! 🙂 (Obviously I know I can, just curious on your thoughts of it needs the Silver ;))
Jamie says
Also, I made these labels to put on 2 oz cup lids. Just thought I’d share. 🙂

These are awesome! Thanks for sharing!!
Julie says
I think the mango rum would go great with the pineapple juice!
Jamie says
Thanks for the quick response! Now that that’s settled, off to explore your blog! #narrowminded 😀

These were a hit last Halloween! Any new ideas for this one?

Are you wanting more themed shots or another way to fill the syringes?
If you’re looking for other jello shot ideas to fill them, any of my non-layered shots would work easily. Of you can invest the extra time to do the layering.

If you’re hoping for Halloween themed shots, I have big plans for next year and I’ll make sure to put some in the syringes too! I’m totally open to suggestions for movies/TV shows as well. 🙂
Beth says
Curious.. I’ve made Jell-O shots many times but never in a syringe.. after the jello has hardened does it actually come out of the syringe ??? Because it’s not in liquid form anymore
Julie Espy says
Hi Beth! It will come out of the syringe. It set’s up but is still squishy enough to come out with the force of the plunger. You just have to press to remove any air first. There may be some farting sounds, but they work! 🙂
Zasha says
Hi! Going to attempt making these. What u flavored gelatin did you use? TY!
Julie Kotzbach says
Hi Zasha! This recipe uses unflavored gelatin. Here is what the packs look like. They’re available at almost every major grocery store and should be around $2.50 to $3 for a pack of 4 envelopes of gelatin.
Ben says
Recipe is WAY too much for the number of syringes listed. Doubled the recipe for 24 syringes and had enough to fill 20 more after. Had to use cups, which is fine, but the recipe is way off.
Julie Kotzbach says
Hi Ben. The total liquid for this recipe is right around 24 ounces. If you’re using the 2-ounce syringes you’ll get 12 shots. The syringes are BIG – like way bigger than the normal syringes most people think of. (here’s a photo of them being held for reference) I’m not sure if you got this size syringe or not, but that’s the only thing I can think of as far as recipe yield differences. I hope you enjoy the shots in any case. Thank you for the feedback.

Used lime jello with pineapple and a little mango juice since I couldn’t find mango rum. Then added Malibu rum and used captain Morgan’s because I prefer the taste. Color was much darker than these but tasted amazing!!
