Around Christmas I love to give gifts to everyone. I’m talking co-workers, friends, the UPS guy who is forever at my house, and of course my family. One of the easiest, and I think most enjoyable, things to give is food. Whether it’s a cookie plate, a gift basket of goodies, or a bacon of the month club subscription (eh hem *wink*) no one says no to food. One of my favorite food gifts to make is this Pesto Dipping Oil. It’s wicked easy and it tastes great.
It’s become common place for chain Italian restaurants to serve bread with some sort oil. Sometimes it just olive oil and balsamic vinegar, or the oil by itself. Other times there is an herb blend to mix into the oil. I don’t like straight up balsamic vinegar in my oil. It’s just too over powering for me. And the herbs scattered around the plate are gone way too quickly – Mike and I practically fight over them.
However, this dipping oil has the perfect ratio seasoning to oil. The vinegar is an under lying flavor, but what you get first and foremost if the pesto. YUM! The pesto flavors everything. I can easily go through an entire baguette with a bowl of this oil, and still have more dipping oil for later. Serve this at a party and watch it disappear before you can make a lap around the room.

Pesto Dipping Oil is the best version of all those restaurant bread companions your get! Pesto, olive oil & balsamic marry together for a dip you’ll love!
- 1/2 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/3 cup prepared pesto
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- Add ingredients to a pint-sized mason jar. Shake vigorously to combine. Pour into serving bowl. Serve with bread or crostini.
You can whisk the ingredients in a medium-sized bowl instead of mixing them in a jar. If I am gifting this pesto oil, I double to recipe to fill the pint mason jar & store it in the mason jar until ready to use it.
